The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.
The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”
As the debut season of the acclaimed program coming to an end—and Season 2 already in development—the creative team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.
On the Tremendous Viewer Reception
Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“It's like being an endless supply of something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a deep trap I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it alter the course of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by online forums.”
“Better to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.
A Pressing Query: Will the creator Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?
So if Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by public opinion, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we conceive of something superior and I imagine we will be doing that.”
Alternatively, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.
“My recurring proposal is that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?
“I want Carol to wake up in bed beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
