Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving crucial attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
