The esteemed football figure has declared that he is not seeking a re-entry into football management, explaining that it would be difficult to duplicate the special mission he felt as head of the Three Lions.

He expressed his plan to focus his energy toward working with young people and countering what he labeled a dominant downbeat story currently found in the country.

Embracing Different Paths Beyond Football

Speaking on air, Southgate was questioned on talk linking him with available jobs in the top flight and abroad.

“My role with England was not just a job—it was a mission representing my nation,” he responded. “That’s going to be very hard to replicate. Having had 37 years in football I’m enjoying finding other areas where I think I might be able to make a difference.”

Dedication to Role Models

Leading up to the launch of his new title, his new work on leadership, the author stated that he is “very passionate” about providing role models for young people, applying lessons from his time as England’s men’s football manager between 2016 and 2024, as well as his role as a father.

He feels that his experience managing the squad, during which the team evolved from being widely disliked to broadly loved, holds broader applications.

“At the beginning, there was a major gap between the team and the fans,” he explained. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Raising Children and Influencing Youth

Drawing on his family life, he commented: “You want to give your kids the best possible start, but there is a point when they don’t want to listen to parents any more. I experienced that in my house in the same way everybody else will … but I do think this is an important space for us.”

He went on: “Currently, a pessimistic story dominates national discourse, and we must offer youth optimism and direction. The country is full of potential, but young individuals require positive influences and supportive peers, as these choices shape their futures profoundly.”

Togetherness Beyond Discord

He stressed that “there is more that unites us [in the UK] than divides us” but that the cultural focus often centers on conflict.

“It’s understandable why people are disaffected,” he said. “Many areas face economic hardship, which naturally inspires demands for improvement. However, I’ve experienced the power of national unity. In the Covid crisis, acts of community support showed the country at its finest, proving our resilience when challenged.”

His forthcoming book, the book Dear England, is expected to present additional perspectives on guidance and country pride drawn from his distinguished time in football.
