Fans Urge Custody of Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Passionate followers of the pop star are calling for that a man who breached a barricade and touched the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or deported from Singapore.
A widely shared video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past media personnel and rushing toward Grande while the performers made its way down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly wrested the stunned star away from Mr Wen, who was seen being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "free after being detained", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a celebrity gathering. His Instagram account features clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including rushing the platform at the pop singer's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last December.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram commenter, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous followers accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed experiencing PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said a further response on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while some called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked surprised when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not commented on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore shopping center, including several who had waited for as long as a significant duration before it commenced.
The motion picture, to be launched on 21 November, is the second of a two-part version of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two very different characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the event while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown decorated with roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful film of last year in the UK, and received 10 Academy Award nods, earning several for outstanding attire and set decoration.
