Realistically, they'd hope for an Ashes series in Australia where they retain a possibility to reclaim the urn once the opening games are done.

Unfortunately, this scenario is off the table on this occasion, however, after Australia's crushing 82-run win in Adelaide gave Australia with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on their own soil.

The Barmy Army, the organized fan base, have thousands of supporters making the journey for the final two Tests in New South Wales and Victoria.

Furthermore, other tour groups who will be vacationing in Australia, as well as families and friends embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The Disappointed Travelers

Four fans named Alex, Sam, Rory and Katie are among those affected.

The group had their travel arrangements and match passes secured for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", hoping to witness a rare England series success.

From afar, they've seen Australia dismantle the tourists in just under two weeks from their family home in their hometown.

"Everyone at work has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"Our expectation had been that we would have the series on the line by the time we arrived."

Diminishing Hope

Optimism was high about England's chances of breaking a 15-year drought for a victory down under prior to the first ball.

Yet now they are facing the prospect of extending their winless run in the country to 19 consecutive Tests when the Boxing Day Test begins in the MCG on Christmas Day.

The England team - and their followers - will be desperate to avoid a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

It was mentioned that the "excitement and fun" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent times had "renewed interest in" Test cricket for English supporters.

But the Ryding siblings said they had minimal hopes for the final two games - and all they are asking for from the players is "a show of spirit".

"Every pundit alludes to it, but it all hinges on psychological strength. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, impractical batting," added Rory.

"Over the course of five days, you should dig in. Playing at deliveries 'wide of off stump has never featured in the textbooks, and that is largely because of the batting lineup."

The Remaining Matches

When questioned if he believed England will win a match in the current series, one fan responded: "The evidence suggests the hosts are a stronger side currently."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that stands up for England and makes a big impact."

Even with the series lost, the siblings are still anticipating the trip.

"It will be a wonderful trip anyway," said Katie. "We have to go with that attitude."

"Of course, it's a let-down we aren't fighting for more, but we have made a substantial financial commitment by now."

"We'll enjoy spending the festive season overseas. This will be a new experience for us abroad during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is determined to make the most of the lengthy journey as part of her time off.

"As a backup plan, I've got golf to fall back on," she finished.
