The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has announced that parent company the multinational conglomerate blocked the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian frozen dessert product.

The entrepreneur, who co-founded the business alongside his partner, announced that he plans to independently develop this new product as part of an individual series showcasing issues Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Conflict Between Founders versus Parent Company

The recent announcement intensifies the continuing conflict between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods giant which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

Both founders have claimed how Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur announced through an Instagram video how he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored sorbet, requesting public suggestions regarding naming options plus potential ingredients.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that advocates for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem for solidarity with Palestinians because of its colors, that mirror the colors in the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism and Recent Changes

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas under Israeli control, leading to Unilever transferring their Israel business to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution in the occupied West Bank.

The new dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand that originally established several years back for endorsing ex- political contender Bernie Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Leadership Changes plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder indicated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors that address issues that the company was prevented from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

The announcement follows co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down from the company recently, following decades of involvement, mentioning worries regarding how its independence had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen stated that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to keep working inside the company to advocate for corporate autonomy so that it can actualise the social mission, the principles that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
