Administration Announces Federal Employee Layoffs as Funding Gap Approaches Third Week
Administration officials disclosed the initiation of government employee terminations on Friday, following through on earlier warnings linked to the continuing federal funding lapse, which is now poised to extend into its third consecutive week.

The director of the White House budget office posted on a public platform that “reductions in force have begun,” indicating the government’s process for terminating staff.
Although the official provided no details on which departments were affected, a treasury spokesperson stated that notices had been issued within that agency. Furthermore, a Department of Homeland Security representative indicated that staff reductions would take place at the CISA. Also, a union representing federal workers announced that employees at the Education Department would be impacted by the staff cuts.
Labor Reaction and Court Actions
Union leaders warned that the layoffs would have “devastating effects” on public services relied upon by millions of Americans and pledged to challenge the moves in the legal system.

Legislative Impasse and Budget Dispute
Lawmakers from the Democratic party have declined to vote for a Republican-backed legislation to reopen the government unless it contains healthcare-centered concessions. Following multiple unsuccessful votes, the Senate’s Republican leaders have adjourned the Senate until next Tuesday, indicating the deadlock is not expected to be ended before then.
